Cebu Pacific Sponsors Marginalized Students’ Goodwill Trip to China

The airline facilitated the trip meant to encourage better ties between our two countries

Supporting the efforts of the Philippine Consulate in China to promote better relations between the Philippines and China, Cebu Pacific recently sponsored 10 economically marginalized Filipino students on their familiarization tour of Shanghai, China. The country’s leading carrier shouldered the round-trip airfare of the Jose Rizal University students and their two mentors, as they embarked on a 7-day exposure trip to China from June 11 to 17, 2019.

In soliciting Cebu Pacific’s support for the project, the Philippine Consulate in Shanghai expressed their belief that the trip would give the students a “more realistic picture and enhance their knowledge of the real China, know the common history that bind us together, and find out what our country can learn from China as well. This tour will also impart to the youth the lessons of good neighborliness and its importance to international relations.”

Aside from Cebu Pacific, the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai also partnered with the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, the Dezhou municipal government, Soong Ching Ling School, and a number of Philippine-owned companies operating in China, including Dai-Ichi Electronics, Jollibee, and Liwayway Marketing, for the senior high school students’ tour.

After arriving in China on June 11, the students began a full week of activities, beginning with a courtesy call at the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai. Over the next few days, they would learn about the experiences of the Filipino Community in Shanghai (FILCOMSHA), visit the Shanghai World Expo Museum and Oriental Pearl Tower’s History Museum, tour the production facilities of Dai-Ichi and Liwayway (Oishi), take in several cultural shows and activities, and sample traditional Chinese cuisine. A day before their departure back to Manila, the students participated the “Sayaw, Saya Sa Shanghai” event organized by FILCOMSHA in commemoration of the 121st anniversary of Philippine Independence, performing a few OPM classics for the enjoyment of the crowd.
