Corporate Coalition Praised For Finding Ways to Solve the Plastic Problem

With other big firms, URC will set up a plastic recycling facility in Parañaque

The Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability (PARMS), a multi-sectoral coalition composed of top corporations including Universal Robina Corporation, Coca-Cola Philippines, Kopiko, Monde Nissin, Mondelez International, Nestle, Liwayway Marketing Corporation (Oishi), Pepsi Cola Products Philippines, Procter and Gamble, and Unilever, was recently cited by Senator Cynthia Villar for its initiatives to help solve the country’s plastic waste problem.

Parañaque Representative Gus Tambunting, Senator Cynthia Villar, PARMS President Crispian Lao, Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, PARMS vice president Bert Guevarra and Parañaque City Environment and Natural Resources Office head Bernie Amurao.

Sen. Villar, the chair of the Senate committee on environment and natural resources, was present when PARMS signed a memorandum of agreement with Parañaque City government for the installation of a plastic waste recycling facility and research and development center in Barangay La Huerta. Set to be operational by the first quarter of 2020, the facility was inspired by the Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG), which pioneered the recycling of residual or waste plastics into school chairs.

“You are all on the right track in integrating sustainability in your business strategies. I think that makes good business sense and our future generations will thank you for that,” said Villar.

PARMS president Crispian Lao and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez signed the MOA at the Eden Room at Mondelez Philipppines headquarters.  Paranaque Representative Gus Tambunting, Mondelez plant head Atul Kulkarni, PARMS vice president Bert Guevarra and Parañaque City Environment and Natural Resources Office head Bernie Amurao were also present at the event.
